Adopt-A-Boat

The Sharks are owned by the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club. The sharks are used for instruction and the Adopt A Boat program. Each club boat will have a maximum of 8 members. Instruction will be offered once a month and will require one of the club boats.

Certificates & Licenses

Minimum of CYA Basic Cruising Skipper Standard, Pleasure Craft Operators Card and VHF DSC Radio License.

Availability

During the seasons the Sharks are available launch until haul-out; only when the club is open and during daylight hours.

Time Slots

The boats are scheduled on three hour time slots.

  • 0900-1200 
  • 1200-1500 
  • 1500-1800
  • 1800-2100

As the boats are shared, we have set up the following booking rules to allow each member an opportunity to use the boats.

  • One weekend day and two weekday
  • No back to back scheduling
  • Advanced booking two weeks out

Boat Check Lists

As required by Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada each vessel need to have a certain amount of safety gear for the boat, each crew member. Each boat has a check list and is the responsibility of the skipper to ensure each boat is compliant.

Please ensure any maintenance issues are reported, the boat has been put to bed, cleaned and fueled up for the next member. To ensure this happens a $50 cleaning fee will be charged to your account. 

Responsibilities

The program is designed to develop skills for sailors to enable them to feel comfortable enough to purchase and maintain their own boats.  Each member will be required to participate in variety of ways. Preparing the boat for launch, rigging, ongoing maintenance, and end of season haul-out.
