NOTICE OF RACE

Ontario Martin 16 Championship and John Farrell Regatta

August 12-13, 2023

  1. RULES
    • The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024

       1.2    The prescriptions of Sail Canada will apply and are stated in full in SI 30.

  • Racing Rules will be changed as follows:
    • Rules 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required.
    • Part 4 preamble and Rules 40.1 and 40.2 are changed to always require personal flotation devices while on the docks and afloat. See 9 – SAFETY

        1.4   Rule G1.1 (b) will not apply. These changes rule 77.

  1. COMMUNICATIONS
    • The official notice board is located on the patio wall at the east end of the main club building.
  2. ELIGIBILITY
    • The Martin 16 class is open to sailors with a disability. Sailors in the Gold fleet may elect to sail with or without a companion. Sailors in the Silver Fleet shall sail with a companion.
    • Upon review, the regatta organizers may assign a sailor to either a gold or silver fleet or require a gold fleet sailor to sail with a companion.
  3. ENTRY
    • Competitors must register before midnight, Friday, July 31, using online registration, found at rhyc.ca. After July 29, a late registration fee will apply.
  4. ENTRY FEES
    • The fee for participating in the regatta is $75.00 This includes lunch on both days. Registrations received after July 31, will be required to pay a late registration fee of $90.00. Competitors, companions, and others may purchase dinner from the reasonably priced menu in the Club dining room.
  5. BORROWED BOATS
    • A limited number of borrowed boats may be available for out-of-town competitors. Please get in touch with the regatta organizers. Competitors who borrow a boat are responsible for damages to the boat while in their care.
    • Competitors using borrowed boats must provide a $500.00 damage deposit.

Prize presentations

 

  1. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
    • Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.
  2. VENUE
    • Sailing will take place on Hamilton Harbour adjacent to the RHYC. Drawings will be attached to the Sailing Instructions.
  3. SAFETY
    • All competitors and companions shall wear government-approved personal flotation devices while on the dock or afloat. This changes the Part 4 preamble and Rules 40.1 and 40.2.
    • In an emergency, coach, and spectator boats will be required to assist with safety operations and shall be under the direction of the course race officer.
  4. SCORING
    • One race is required to constitute a regatta.
    • If fewer than 4 races are completed, a boat’s series score shall be her total score. If 4 or more races are completed, a boat’s score shall be her total score less her worst score.
  5. Prizes
    • Ontario Sailing will award provincial prizes to top finishers in the Martin 16 fleet who are residents of Ontario.
    • Farrell Cup prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers in each Martin 16 fleet.

 12.1 All participants take part in this event entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority will not accept liability for material damage, injury, or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta.

  1. RISK STATEMENT
    • RRS 3 states: ‘The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.’ By participating in this event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks. These risks include strong winds and rough seas, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform, and fatigue resulting in an increased risk of

13.1 Each participating boat must be insured with valid 3rd party insurance with a minimum coverage of one million dollars Canadian (C$ 1,000,000)

    • Competitors and Support Persons under the age of 26, need to:
      • Confirm they have read a Ministry-Approved Concussion Awareness
      • Confirm you have reviewed, and committed to, the Ontario Sailing Athlete Concussion Code of Conduct.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION (NOT PART OF THE NOTICE OF RACE)

 

1.     Covid

RHYC will adhere to all government restrictions and policies that are in place at the time of the Regatta.

1.    Accommodations

2.    Food

Food and Beverages will be available at the clubhouse per the menu and prices.

3.    Water Bottles

Please bring refillable water bottles. Outdoor water refilling station located by the main entrance to the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club.

 

5. Trailer Parking

Trailer Parking will be at the HOPA building on James St. North. The entrance to the parking lot is located off Guise St. Please do not block the garage door at the parking lot. Each trailer should have a tongue and box lock. No trailers are to be left in the RHYC parking area.
